Pimpama Coomera Waterfuture Master Plan - Limited to 40 Delegates

The Gold Coast City Council’s Pimpama Coomera Waterfuture Master Plan is securing a sustainable water future for residents of the 7,700 hectare Pimpama Coomera region by reducing the use of drinking water and creating an integrated urban water cycle.

Conducted at Gold Coast Water’s Pimpama Recycled Water Treatment Plant - the largest component of the international award winning Master Plan  -  the tour covers the Class A+ recycled water treatment process. Other key components of the Master Plan examined will include; the dual reticulation supply network, Water Sensitive Urban Design, rainwater tanks and the use of reduced infiltration gravity sewers.

Western Corridor Recycling Plant - Limited to 40 delegates

The $2.5 billion Western Corridor Recycled Water Project is the largest project of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. The project has the capacity to produce up to 232 megalitres of purified recycled water a day and is currently supplying water to the region’s major power stations and in the future will supply industry and agriculture, as well as the Wivenhoe Dam if required.

Caboolture reclamation plant - Limted to 20 Delegates

Recycled water is the water produced from the thorough treatment and disinfection of water from the South Caboolture water reclamation plant. This treatment results in a high quality product currently approved for irrigation and non-drinking uses such as toilet flushing and car washing. Recycled water is clear and looks and smells just like drinking water. In Caboolture, this recycled water is being used for toilet flushing, watering sportsfields and parks, gardens and lawns and dust control and roadworks. Recycled water is used in many parts of Australia for irrigation, in domestic gardens, toilet flushing and industrial uses.

Inghams - Limited to 15 Delegates

Inghams is one of Brisbane’s top 10 water users and is one of the first private Companies in Australia to make a multimillion dollar investment in water sustainability. Using water from an advanced water treatment plant creates a more environmentally sustainable system for the Murarrie facility, as well as contributing to the local community. The AWTP enables water use to be reduced by 70% using world class technology to treat the water used during processing in the factory, water is returned to be re-used in processing areas such as kill and evisceration and for wash down.

Foster's Brewery Yatala - Limited to 20 Delegates

The Foster's Brewery at Yatala supplies approximately 25% of the beer consumed in Australia. In 2003 Foster's embarked on an upgrade program, investing over $172 in the project to double the previous production capacity. This facility is now the world's most water-efficient major brewery with an average water consumption of only 2.3L per 1L of beer produced. During its expansion, the brewery worked with Gold Coast Water to reduce its impacts and to incorporate water reuse initiatives that complement the region's overall salinity, water and wastewater strategy. The innovative system has also resulted in significant reductions in salt discharge from the brewery and in the consumption of cleaning chemicals, while minimising energy and greenhouse gas impacts. On 16 May 2006 Foster's Australia won the Industrial Eco-Efficiency Award in the inaugural Environmental Protection Agency Sustainable Industries Awards for recycling and reducing water use at the Yatala brewery.

Foster's has been brewing at Yatala since 1993. The "Brewhouse" visitor's centre has been open to the public since 1996. This site visit will provide a fascinating insight into the brewing process and water recycling facility, including a tour around the brewery, visit of wastewater treatment and recycling facility and a complimentary tasting. Enclosed footwear must be worn for safety reasons.
